Denise Brown is a contemporary jeweller, working mainly in sterling silver, with high carat golds. She uses various techniques, including fusion-inlay and mill-rolling to create subtle surface patterns on silver, sometimes oxidising the metal to give matt black contrast to the warm golds. Often pieces are given a satin finish, with edges highly polished for contrast. Each piece is handmade, and where necessary hallmarked in London with her registered mark. Inspired by simple geometric shapes, retro patterns, coastal themes, ancient symbols and contemporary ceramics, her work is about contrasts of colour and texture.
Largely self-taught, Denise has been working with precious metals since 2000. She has been tutored by professional jewellers, including Jinks McGrath and Olivia Schlevogt. Enjoying the constuction process, she carefully plans the execution of a design from initial sketch to finished piece. She is very happy to undertake commissions which complement her style of work.
Denise is a member of the Association for Contemporary Jewellery, the Craft Central Network and the Anglian Potters.
