Ceramics

Denise uses coiling, press-forming (in her own handmade moulds), and also slab-building techniques to create bowls, small pots and vessels. Using stoneware clay, the pieces are decorated using dry glazes and oxides, fired to 1260°C and then finished with the application of 22ct gold leaf. Her work is inspired by regular visits to Southwold on the Suffolk coast. Her images of the beach huts, fish, boats and birds, combined with the warm yellows of the sand and faded blues of the sea, evoke memories, and capture the essence of coastal landscape.

In Oct 2010 Denise's work was displayed as a finalist in the Victoria & Albert Museum "inspired by.." competition.
